When is cold, just too cold to ice fish? After a long snowmobile ride through Alaska's wilderness we arrive at our remote cabin to cast lines for Burbot and Lake Trout. Man, it got cold outside but the ice hut warmed up quickly with a camp stove. Always an adventure in Alaska.

    Every belt "guy" I have ever encountered has always stressed paying attention to the direction of the belt but not one reviewer has even said if it matters with the MKII. Is there one and if not, does it matter if you run the belt one way one time and the next time the other way?

    Best way to eat them is to scale, stuff with sage stuffing, 40 min. on the grill. Extremely tasty.

      No. Which is why we decided we would keep a couple and see how they tasted and they taste great. There are some places in Alaska where it’s a good idea to release them because they’re not invasive but there’s places that they shouldn’t be that they are invasive.

      Yes. I imagine after three years stationed there. He’d probably want to get back to civilization because Adak is literally at the end of nowhere. It’s a beautiful place and I love to go down there to chase critters and fish but long-term it’s too remote.

      @@michaelbailey8320 Ok, I see what you’re saying. If you watch the entire episode you’ll see this is a feature piece on Tony Davis when he lived on Kodiak Island. We also show a 420 pound halibut, ling cod, Pacific cod and rockfish but the main episode was pike fishing which we showed being fried. Thanks for watching.

      During 1958-1959, 23 barren-ground caribou (R. tarandus granti) from the Nelchina herd on mainland south-central Alaska were transplanted to the west side of Adak to provide recreational hunting and an emergency food supply for military personnel (Jones 1966).

      Because we want to keep the belly separate from the fillets, and this method there’s no need to gut it. We use the other method as well, but it really depends on how we plan on using the fish on which way we go.

      @@AlaskaOutdoorsTV I used to help a commercial barramundi fisherman ever yr ,he was a land based professional 🇦🇺he only caught king salmon and barramundi ,we drove it all direct to the air port 😎I tell you about some cool old Australian 🇦🇺 knifes known to us as green river knifes ,they were made by early workers in the -1800 s and turn of the century ,they were simply shovel heads that wore down till they were useless lol 😂 then fashioned into knifes 🇦🇺not sure but if the shovel brand was green river or not !

      Myth. Now, depending on the fish species like say tuna, USDA discourages pregnant women from eating too much of it. There are many scientific papers out on this topic. It has nothing to do with salmon.

      This fillet method is a common method of many Alaskans and thousands of fishing guides. It does nothing to harm the salmon eggs. You can use them as cured bait, or turn them into Ikura.

      When you’re cleaning couple hundred salmon a week it’s good to be “good” while also being quick and efficient. If I had just caught a 40 pound king salmon, I’d certainly be taking my time and enjoying the moment.

    pro chef tip,, leave the 1st fillet on the fish when you flip it to do the 2nd fillet,, it makes it 100x easier

      How would you do that if you’re cutting the fillet completely away from the fish? Are you talking about the butterfly method or leaving it attached at the tail section?

    Nice bright silver. Filleted 100s, a bit differently but always enjoyed 50lbs of smoked and a freezer full of vacuum sealed meals for the year. A nice 30llb king can run like crazy but silvers are the feisty ones. Especially 2 or 3 on at once. Oof!

    My best bud's son is stationed there in the Army. Always talking about how much he hates it. smh. I told him to get his ass off that base and go fishing! If he started doing this he'd probably never come back to the lower 48...kids these days, WTH!!!

      True story. I’ve been to the three major bases in the state and they all say you have to go off the base and experience Alaska. I know a lot of them that hunt fish. Many of them return once they’re done with the service.

    Fishing for north Atlantic salmon off Nova Scotia, few years back and caught one just a hair bigger than this. Some damn fine eating indeed. Keep it simple though. Salt and pepper to taste, drop some butter, in a hot pan and cook skin side down for a few mins. pop in the oven for 7 or 8 more minutes, serve with lemon.

      Spot on! That is the best go-to way that I like to prepare salmon as well. Don’t hide the taste of the FRESH fish in a bunch of sauce and spices.
